About the Kulas
The Kula Cafe is home to good food at fair prices, as well as hard workers who are training to work in the hospitality industry. The paid training program takes the unemployment issue in Asbury Park and turns it into a community of empowered skills workers. Participants and customers work together towards the common goal of creating a better future, all while serving up fresh food in a comfortable and friendly environment.

The Kula Urban Farm Project is an expansion of the Kula Cafe. This bustling community farm gives Asbury Park area residents the opportunity to learn how to plant, nurture and grow food, that will then be available to the public for purchase, as well as used in meals at the Kula Cafe. Enjoy a true farm to table experience by hosting your next event at the farm, catered by Kula Café, with meals made fresh from the farm.
GIVE THE GIFT THAT KEEPS ON GIVING.
Programs that benefit the community need to come from the heart, and the Kula Cafe and Kula Urban Farm are no exception. Those involved with both projects put so much of themselves into seeing the community flourish, by self-empowerment, involvement and experiences. The reality however, is that the programs can’t run purely on the dedication of a few hard working people. Please consider making a contribution to these organizations.

JOB TRAINING PROGRAM
The Kula Café Training Program is 16 weeks of job-readiness training, hands on experience in the Kula Café, and includes a 4 week paid internship with local restaurants, allowing business owners to see the skills the participants have learned.
Incorporate hands-on learning into your school curriculum through our Green Thumbs farm to table program. Students tour the farm to learn about harvesting fresh produce and then take that produce into the café to create healthy recipes.>
Every Monday, outside of the Kula Cafe, meals are offered to individuals in need, free of charge. The program now serves approximately 200 patrons each week. Stop by the Springwood Avenue location for a complimentary meal, or learn more about helping.
SEASONAL FARM WORK
The Kula Urban Farm offers job training to individuals in the local area who do not qualify for traditional job training. This temporary, part-time contract work is designed to provide successful participants with experience working on the farm to reinforce basic workplace skills and references for future employment opportunities.
